Come inside the Belle Boyd House: on the right of the entry hall is the original ballroom decorated
in Victorian style as it would have been in the late 1800's.  This is the only room in the house
decorated as living quarters.  Meetings, receptions, and seminars take place here.  If your group is
interested in utilizing our ball room space, please contact us.  Through the door on the far side of the
room, step into the Ben Boyd store.  This space was originally built by Benjamin Boyd in 1850 and
housed the General Store that he ran for five years.  Read more about the offerings in the Ben Boyd
Store
HERE.

To the left of the entry hall is the First Parlor.  Here the BCHS presents the story of the Civil War in
Martinsburg and Berkeley County.  In the Second Parlor you will find rotating displays that are
relevant to other displays in the house, or collections that belong to contributing members.  Farthest
back in the  house you enter the original Kitchen where BCHS presents more long term exhibits on
county history.

On the second floor of the museum is a room dedicated to all wars except the Civil War and World
War II, with items donated to the Society by county residents or descendants.  Our newly renovated
Black History Room is a work in progress.  Belle Boyd, the industrial history of Martinsburg, fashion
and early toys fill other rooms.  One room is dedicated to items that harken back to the days of World
War II.  Another room holds items related to President Abraham Lincoln and his connection to
Berkeley County through his former law partner and body guard, Ward Hill Lemon as well as the
King's Daughter's Hospital and its nursing school.

Special displays are arranged in the museum throughout the year.  Please be sure to check our
EVENTS page for the specifics.
MUSEUM
The Berkeley County Museum is owned and operated by the
Berkeley County Historical Society in the historic Belle Boyd
House located on East Race Street in Martinsburg, West
Virginia.  In 1992, the Society, with the generous initial donations
of Mr. Boyd H. Mason, saved the building from the wrecking
ball.  Many more donations, large and small, have been made
since that time to continue what was begun nearly 20 years ago.
Today the house stands as a timeless and effective reminder to
